Creative Leader
Em Farquhar-Barrie (they/them), the part-time Creative Leader at Hearts 4 Joy, is a multidisciplinary artist that grew up in and around Nogojiwanong (Peterborough). Living amidst intersecting identities, they explore the in-between of the physical and spiritual, health and illness, community and individuality, and life and loss. Em is a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) graduate from York University, holding a certificate in Cultural and Artistic Practices for Environmental and Social Justice. Recent publications include submissions in the Lived Collective Magazine, Crip Collab Zine Issue #2, Re-Storying Autism Zine, QT Lit Mag: Flirt and The River Magazine. They have had their work exhibited at Jason Wilkins Factory, Atelier Ludmila Gallery, Gallery 1313, Sketch Working Arts, Slanted Door Gallery, York University, and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Welcoming everyone as an artist, Em has always believed that art brings all people together, provides purpose and improves daily life. From a young age, Em has worked in the community to promote accessibility and inclusion. Em has extensive experience facilitating art to people of all ages and abilities, including classroom, camp, and day program settings. Em is overjoyed to work with the exceptionally talented artists at Hearts 4 Joy.
